Native Gold Spinel Twin Crystals on Quartz Matrix
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada
Gold from the Round Mountain Mine is more or less always captivating with this specimen displaying intricate network of complex crystal morphology. Upon closer examination the native gold formed into angular cubic crystals with hundreds of flat patterned crystallized surfaces. The crystals are so unusual and unique that it looks similar to a coral reef up close. In some areas the gold branches out and forms angular stacked thick octahedral crystal branches. Closely compacted clustered native gold formed at its lower section displays multi layers of micro crystals as a secondary growth. On all sides the gold crystals are shown and the specimen can be displayed on either side. The white quartz matrix makes for a perfect contrast to the worm buttery yellow gold crystals. Nearly every angle the gold reflects a shine like a gem with hundreds of microcrystals grown within and on top of the larger main crystals. This gold specimen is a fantastic representation for its locality.
