Native Gold on Quartz
Colorado Quartz Mine, Mariposa, California 
This gold specimen is a great example of lustrous native gold on quartz from this famous gold mine that is now closed. The gold displays many intricate and complex textured surfaces seen throughout the crystallized gold. Its flat crystal faces are the result of high luster reflecting back. The matrix is a highly mineralized quartz matrix as a result of hydrothermal gold deposition iron oxides were stained on the quartz.
