Gold on Quartz
Sonora, Mexico
This extraordinary gold specimen, unearthed in the arid Sonora Desert, is an exceptionally rare native mineral, often unattainable for collectors. It originates from the same deposit mined by the ancient Aztecs and Spanish Conquistadors for currency, jewelry, and other valuables. Discovered by a local prospector in a rich quartz and gold vein, the specimen features robust plates of native gold and complex clusters of crystalline gold. Its purity is very high, and the leaf-like gold crystals display good luster. The dense, thick native gold penetrates a small quartz matrix in the middle section. Encased in white quartz, the natural high-purity native gold is beautifully showcased on all sides. Its bright yellow color makes it an exemplary specimen from this locality.
