Gold Crystals on Quartz
Round Mountain Mine, Nye County, Nevada, USA
This exceptional gold specimen displays a rich concentration of buttery yellow native gold on a slightly beige color volcanic and quartz matrix. The gold developed into clusters of crystalline dendritic gold with some having bright cubed crystal faces that reflect a bright shine. Gold cubes are very rarely developed due to the exact temperature and pressures needed to align the gold atoms to form perfect cubes. The native gold also formed into spinel twin wires with secondary growths on top. The native gold crystals are thick and robust protruding from cavities within the matrix. Native crystalline gold is not often seen o matrix from this locality ad this well crystallized native gold specimen is a prime example for its locality.
