Gold Crystals on Lead-Iron Matrix
Placer County, California
This incredible gold morphology is arguably the rarest forms of crystallized gold, wire gold. The gold wires are displayed as groups of clusters on a dark matrix which consists of a mixture of lead and iron naturally forming with the gold wires. The gold crystal morphology is very complex and upon closer examination we see many uniquly shapped geometrical gold crystals overlapping and crisscrossing one another forming a mesh network of breathtaking gold crystals. Some areas the gold formed into dodecahedral crystals that almost look spherical. Other crystals are naturally modified into octahedral crystals. The gold crystals are very high purity over 93% which is also unusual and very rarely seen high purity. On some of the gold wires a beautiful red-copper color toning is visible. This specimen is an incredibly unique and rare geological sample for the mineral collector or geological study.
