Cubed Native Silver
New Nevada Mine, San Miguel, Batopilas, Andrés del Rio mining district, Batopilas Municipality, Chihuahua, Mexico
This Native Silver specimen exhibits unusually rare, cubed silver crystals which are not often seen from this locality. The thick elongated native silver crystals which some have sharp points are the early stages of where if under correct geological conditions would have formed into long feather like dendritic crystals. However, cubed silver crystals are generally an uncommon occurrence and there are scattered all throughout the specimen. There is multiple twinning of cubes silver crystal clearly seen on the top of the specimen. The darker large crystal on its matrix is called Sphalerite which is also a rare combination of minerals. The Sphalerite is a translucent on some areas and depicts a dark orange, brown color to dark brown and overall displays very lustrous crystal faces. The overall shape of the native silver crystal is unusually rare considering its incredibly large triangular shape.
