Crystallized Gold on Quartz
Ophir Mine, Alleghany District, Sierra County
California, USA
From the famed Ophir Mine in California, this large and rich complex gold specimen is itself a unique and unusual association of intricate leaf crystalline gold. The native gold exhibits layers of thick and slightly angled layers of native gold with smaller crystal clusters in between. The crystallized gold branches out beautifully consisting of impressive large crystals with sharp edges displaying its complex plate crystals of robust structure and outstanding aesthetics. The color saturation on the robust leafy crystals are rich buttery yellow and the luster is second to none. Most gold from this locality don’t display high luster such as this specimen exhibits. This rare specimen is one of the best of crystalline gold likely to be seen from the Ophir Mine.
